BMW 8 Series and 7 Series
The BMW 8 Series debuted in 1989. With a V8 or V12 engine, this 2-door coupe was powerful and pricey, selling for around £60,000+. The engine had a limiter, topping the speed out at 155 miles per hour, but with the limiter removed, the car could travel at up to 186 miles per hour. The 8 Series was not developed for the mainstream market; it was a “Supercar,” built for its superior design and performance. With a price tag to match, it was never expected to sell in mass numbers.
Used BMW 8 Series automobiles are still selling privately and through dealers for £8,000 to 20,000, regardless of the fact that a new one has not been sold since 1999. Because of the quality of the cars and the reliability of BMW service, a second hand 8 Series, if well cared for, is still an excellent investment. Sporty and stylish in appearance, and superior in road handling and power, a used 8 Series could be just the answer for a buyer seeking a sportscar of this caliber on a budget.
The BMW 7 Series is a full sized luxury vehicle that is only available as a sedan. Introduced in 1977, the 7 series is the Flagship car for BMW. The current 7 Series features the iDrive system, which consists of a video screen and a controller that functions much like a computer mouse. This device is used to control the audio system, climate, navigation, communication, and suspension settings, using a series of menus.
Since 2002, the 7 Series has been available in four versions: standard wheel base, extended wheel base, the high security version, and the hydrogen powered version. The security version includes laminated windows and armoured plating on the body and underbody, plus an emergency front widescreen exit. The hydrogen powered version is a limited production vehicle that has been modified to run on hydrogen or gasoline.
Because the 7 Series is the car that many envision when they think of a “Beemer,” and because of the reputed quality and longevity of the vehicle is well-known, the 7 Series retains a high resale value. Used BMW 7 Series automobiles are available through the certified pre-owned program offered by BMW dealerships, and used 7 Series can be found from private sellers as well.
