BMW 5 Series and 6 Series
The BMW 5 Series is an executive sedan, which has been on the market since the year 1972. Models available now include the sedan or the xDrive sedan, the xDrive sports wagon, or the Gran Turismo. The 5 Series was on Car and Driver's annual Ten Best list six years in a row, from 1997 to 2002. MotorTrend named it the Import Car of the Year in 1997, and What Car? Executive Car of the Year from 1997 to 2002.
The resale value on the 5 Series is very high, given that the car has a proven record of safety, and is known for its classic style, even as styles have changed over the years. A car buyer seeking a used BMW 5 Series will save money over buy it brand new, and if he is careful to choose a car which has been serviced properly, he will be buying a second hand car that will last a long time, and provide a safe, comfortable ride.
The BMW 6 Series was first introduced in 1976 as a variation of the 5 Series. The E24 was a 2-door coupe that was sold from 1976 through 1989. There was no 6 Series after that until 2003, when the 6 Series was reintroduced. The BMW E63/E64 are the models which are still available today. They are available in coupe or soft top convertible.
These models were warmly received by the BMW population. The vehicles have proven safe and well built as have other models by the manufacturer. This quality and attention to detail is what have helped these cars retain their value and longevity. In 2008, Kelley Blue Book named the BMW 6 Series as the luxury car with the highest resale value. This is great news for the owner who bought it new because he will see more return on investment when turning it back in, and it is good news for the buyer who purchases it used because he is purchasing a car that promises to continue to offer quality and safety for years to come. |
