BMW 3 Series and BMW M3
The BMW 3 Series has been on the market since 1975 and is the best selling BMW, accounting for up to 40% of the auto maker's sales. Classified as a compact executive car, the 3 Series is the best selling car of its class in the United States, Asia, Australia, and Europe. The E90 is the currently available3 Series and is available in a 2-door coupe, 2-door convertible, 4-door sedan, and a 5-door touring package.
Standard equipment on the 3 Series includes rear and front air conditioning, power locks and keyless entry, heated mirrors, seat and mirror memory, daytime running lights and auto-on headlights, electronic stability control, and much more. Also included is a crash sensor which unlocks doors, turns on hazard lights, and turns on interior lighting in case of a crash.
Over the years, the BMW 3 Series has withstood the test of time, proving itself a consistently safe and reliable car that is a pleasure to drive. For this reason, and because of the reputation of the manufacturer, used BMW 3 Series vehicles are popular among those seeking the safety and style but on a lower budget. A second hand 3 Series that has been cared for and serviced properly may be the right fit for a buyer who cannot afford a new BMW; thanks to the quality of the vehicle and the reputation of BMW service, a used 3 Series may not be a great risk depending on the condition of the vehicle at the time of purchase.
In 1988, BMW released the M3, a high-performance version of the 3 Series. Sold in coupe, sedan, and convertible styles, The M3 boasts improved handling and suspension, a more powerful engine, and various accents seen on the interior and the exterior of the car. The M3 is considered by many to be the single most successful road-race car in existence; it has won more races than any single competitor.
2012 is the expected date of the next full revision of the BMW 3 Series automobile. State-of-the-art aerodynamics and lighter weight materials can be expected to be featured. A hybrid version of the 3 Series may even be on the horizon.
