BMW 1 Series
The BMW 1 Series is the least expensive of the BMW family. It comes in four models: two-door hatchback, four-door hatchback, coupe, and convertible. All four models come with the same standard equipment, including front and rear air conditioning, power windows and locks, heated outside mirrors, daytime running lights, heated wipers/washer, and traction control, to name a few. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, but an automatic transmission is an option.
The series was introduced in 2004 in Europe as a hatchback; it was introduced in the United States in 2008 and was warmly welcomed. While light on interior room, especially in the back seat, the car runs “like a Beemer.” Reviews report that the steering is precise, the chassis is well balanced, and body roll is minimal. The car has a sportier suspension than some of the larger BMW models, but it still runs much like a luxury car. It is at home both on the highway and on the windy, serpentine road, and it promises to be a lot of fun to drive.
The BMW 1 Series recently won the ALG Award for best residual value of all luxury cars. The success of used BMW 1 Series sales can be attributed to the consistent quality and service provided by BMW and to the loyalty of BMW owners. This loyalty has been attributed to their love of driving a BMW and to the ease of working with BMW.
BMW dealers have a certified pre-owned program for car buyers to purchase used BMW's with some warranty intact. Of course, there are other markets in which these cars can be bought, from private sellers and from other lots where they have been used as trade-ins.
The only BMW equipped with rear wheel drive, the used BMW 1 Series accounts for one fifth of all BMW sales. The sporty look, feel, and suspension appeal to BMW lovers and the lower price has made it more accessible than its pricier counterparts. Second hand and used 1 Series have continued to sell as have the new cars, as the Series proves its longevity on the road. |
